Our strength lies in diversity

Innopharma’s chemical library comprises over 130.000 compounds, covering a high chemical diversity to maximize the probabilities of finding hits. It includes known drugs for repurposing projects, proprietary compounds, sets of compounds focused on known targets as kinases or GPCRs, natural products, and compounds with drug-like properties.

This extensive variety of compounds is the major strength of our chemical library, which can be applied either to chemical biology or drug discovery projects.

Success stories

Advancement of 17 new chemical entities (NCE) up to clinical trials

Innopharma collaborated in multiple public-private drug discovery projects, supporting the progression of novel chemical entities and repurposed compounds from early discovery to clinical development.

Major outcomes:

  • 17 NCEs progressed to clinical trials.
  • Advancement of vitamin B12 to proof-of-concept clinical trials for ischemic stroke.
  • One NCE licensed to Novartis, currently in Phase III as a cancer immunotherapy.
  • NCE developed with Esteve reached Phase II for neuropathic pain and was later repurposed for COVID-19 with positive results.

G Protein Coupled Receptors (GPCR) signaling pharmacology

Innopharma has led pioneering research in GPCR signaling pharmacology for over three decades, developing molecular probes to study GPCR oligomerization and functional selectivity, advancing the understanding of biased signaling through integrated pharmacological, computational, and medicinal chemistry approaches and collaborations.

Major outcomes:

  • First report of 5-HT2A receptor oligomerization.
  • Discovery of functionally selective GPCR ligands with differentiated in vivo profiles.
  • Over 200 GPCR-active compounds published in leading journals.
  • Major contributions to computational prediction of receptor selectivity.
  • elucidation of molecular mechanisms underlying functional selectivity linked to psychosis and memory deficits.

Drug repurposing for COVID-19

Innopharma, in collaboration with Laboratorios Esteve, conducted in vitro profiling and disease-relevant characterization of Sigma-1 receptor modulators, and supported its repurposing from neuropathic pain to COVID-19 during its pandemic.

Major outcomes:

  • Repurposing of a clinically validated Sigma-1 antagonist.
  • First proof of concept clinical trial conducted in Spain with successful symptom alleviation in COVID-19 patients.
  • Positive clinical outcomes despite post-vaccination trial context
  • Results applicable to other coronavirus infections.
  • Results published in Journal of Infection (2024).

Bioprofiling of the EU-OPENSCREEN’s Compound Collections

Innopharma conducted large-scale cell painting bioprofiling of the EU-OPENSCREEN chemical library, analyzing 25 000 compounds with high reproducibility and robust experimental design.

Major outcomes:

  • Generation of 100 data points.
  • Best quality results of the 4 participating centers: only 7% of plates had to be re-analized.
  • Published on iScience (2025).
  • Innopharma designated as partner site of the OASIS (Omics for Assessing Signatures for Integrated Safety) Consortium for cell painting profiling of compounds.
